The Wheel was an Invention
The Axle was Innovation
Any list of the transformative technological achievements of Humankind has the wheel very close to the top. Yet, it is only through combination with an axle that the true history changing potential of the wheel was realised.
From advances in transportation; to the transmission of power for propulsion, for grinding of foodstuffs and raw materials, for generation of electricity; simple pulleys and gearing to clockwork, and gyroscopes for navigation, it is the axle which unlocked the potential of the wheel.
We seek to ensure that the mix of innovation and existing technologies can provide solutions across the widest possible range of applications, optimising their potential to contribute to more sustainable society and environment.
At AxleTree Capital our name reflects our mission to unlock the potential of innovation for long term benefit.

OUR STORY
Founded in 2023, AxleTree Capital is the culmination of decades of pioneering work in funds management, infrastructure investment and renewable energy.
Our founder Matt Williams is a quiet achiever of Australian funds management. Matt was the first Manager of Australia’s first and oldest infrastructure fund (Utilities Trust Australia) and later launched Australia’s first ever renewable energy fund (Green Energy Australia) in 2001. In 2000 while Associate Director at Hastings Funds Management, Matt pioneered Timberland as an asset class in Australia through the Hastings Hancock International Timberland Fund in partnership with Hancock Timber Resource Group (HTRG). This makes Matt remarkable as a pioneer of two asset classes in funds management (infrastructure and timberland) in the Australian market.
While others say something cannot be done, Matt quietly does it.
We do things differently at AxleTree because the challenges we are facing are unprecedented and call for new thinking.
We asked, why build a jetty when we need a bridge?

We invest in a structured portfolio across the full commercialisation life cycle; from start-up to mature businesses to bridge the "missing middle" of investment in the clean economy transition.

We work with businesses developing projects, technologies, products and services which positively contribute to a sustainable global society and environment, referencing in particular the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development and
its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
AUSTRALIAN BASED, GLOBALLY FOCUSED
Our approach to UN SDGs is informed by the 7 global megatrends identified by the CSIRO (2022).
Development and application of new technologies are critical to achieving the UN SDGs locally
in Australia and worldwide.
“Megatrends typically unfold over years or decades and occur at the intersection of multiple interconnected trends that are narrower in scope.”
(CSIRO, "Our Future World" 2022: 6)
